Unique festival “Kanamara” in Kawasaki,Kanagawa

First Sunday of April every year, the Kanamara festival is held at Kanayama shrine,where is near the Kasaki Taishi in Kawasaki ,Kanagawa prefecture.

Kanayama shrine is God of  be blessed with children and family happiness Shrine.

Local people,go to worship at Kanayama shrine for be blessed with children and family happiness.

The festival started in 1977.It used to be small, but it has become bigger and bigger.
Today, the festival has become something of a tourist attraction.


In the festival, people get around the Mikoshi and carry it on their shoulders in order to worship Gods.

Mikoshi start at Kanayama shrine and go to Taishi Park.

While carrying the Mikoshi, the carriers will yell “Wasshoi, Wasshoi”.

You can carry Mikoshi if you make a reservation beforehand.


After carrying Mikoshi, Many events are held in Kanayama shrine.
